By-law amendment

  BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council for the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami does hereby receive the correspondence from the Temagami Public Library, and

  FURTHER THAT the Council for the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami will hereby amend By-law 23-1708 to include Leah Gauci as a Board Member.

Temagami Fire Department - Surplus Equipment

• Draft Motion:

  BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council for the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami does hereby receive the report from the Temagami Fire Chief regarding a donation request of the surplus 2009 Hydraulic Extrication tools from Firefighters Without Borders Canada;

  AND FURTHER THAT Council approves the Temagami Fire Chief’s recommendation to donate the 2009 Auto Extrication set to Firefighters Without Borders Canada, to be provided to an Ontario volunteer fire department in need.

• Draft Motion:

  BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council for the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami does hereby receive report 24-M-062; and

   

  FURTHER THAT the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami does hereby authorize the Mayor to promptly send a letter to Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, and Michael Ford, Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, requesting that Subsection 27(16) of the Ontario Heritage Act be amended to extend the above-noted deadline for five years from January 1,2025 to January 1, 2030.

Increasing Funding for Public Libraries and Community Museums

• Draft Motion:

  BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council for the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami does hereby receive report 24-M-063; and

   

  FURTHER THAT the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami urges the Provincial Government to support increasing funding to both public libraries and community museums. Recognizing these institutions as national assets and strategically investing in their potential will contribute significantly to renewing post-pandemic social cohesion, economic well-being, and community resilience.

Improve Municipal Codes of Conduct

• Draft Motion:

  Be It Resolved That the Council for the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami does hereby support the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s letter of recommendations which includes options for enforcing compliance by council members with municipal Codes of Conduct such as:

   

  1. Updating municipal Codes of Conduct to account for workplace safety and harassment
  2. Creating a flexible administrative penalty regime, adapted to the local economic and financial circumstances of municipalities across Ontario
  3. Increasing training of municipal Integrity Commissioners to enhance consistency of investigations and recommendations across the province
  4. Allowing municipalities to apply to a member of the judiciary to remove a sitting member if recommended through the report of a municipal Integrity Commissioner
  5. Prohibit a member so removed from sitting for election in the term of removal and the subsequent term of office

   

  Be It Further Resolved That a copy of this Motion be sent to the Hon. Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, Hon. Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Hon. Anthony Rota, MP and Hon. Vic Fideli, MPP.

Ride-Sharing Services 

• Draft Motion:

  BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council for the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami does hereby support the transferring the responsibility of ride-share regulations and licensing to the provincial level and would contribute to a more streamlined and uniform governance structure, while eliminating associated red tape and unnecessary administrative costs;

   

  THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council for the Corporation of the Municipality of Temagami does hereby expresses its support for the migration of ride-share regulations and licensing from the municipal level to the provincial level;

   

  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this motion be distributed to the Honourable Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario; the Honourable Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation; the Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing; the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).

  FURTHER THAT a copy of this resolution be circulated to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario; The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada and The Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice & Attorney General of Canada.
